The Doña Ana Arts Council is coordinating a new opportunity for art lovers to spend a day meeting artists, visiting galleries and joining in special art activities with the new 10 – 10 ArtsHop, 12 hours of art in Las Cruces every second Saturday.
Currently, participating galleries include are the DAAC Arts & Cultural Center (1740 Calle de Mercado, Suite D), Rokoko Art Gallery (1785 Calle De Mercado), NMSU University Art Gallery, (1390 E. University Ave.), Cutter Gallery (2640 El Paso Road), Art Obscura (3206 Harrelson St.) and Four Points Perspective Art Gallery (3405 Highway 28).
“The idea is that from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. every second Saturday of the month, there are 12 hours to see Las Cruces-area art galleries and meet the artists at their receptions. We hope locals and visitors alike will be attracted to the idea: see the art galleries, join the fun, then visit nearby restaurants and other attractions,” said Kathleen Albers, DAAC executive director.
Generally, the participating University-area galleries are open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Mesilla Mercado-area galleries are open from 4 to 7 p.m., and the south Mesilla/Mesilla Park galleries are open from 7 to 10 p.m.
For the April 14 10 – 10 ArtsHop, the University Art Gallery will be exhibiting the 2018 Juried Student Show. The Cutter Gallery will have an artist’s reception for Las Cruces painter Gary Biel. The DAAC Arts & Cultural Center will continue its popular exhibit of watercolors by Arlene Tugel. Rokoko Art Gallery will feature the work of the New Mexico Watercolor Society–Southern Chapter. Four Points Perspective Art Gallery will feature a “Four Points Exclusive” show with gallery artists Chris Bardey, Deborah Moore and Cody Smith. Art Obscura will feature “Looking Up” by Emma Henderson and Tina Ballew and “Damnaged Goods” by Crook.
Upcoming 10 – 10 ArtsHop dates are May 12, June 9 and July 14.
