Artists living in Doña Ana County who have been selling their work for less than two years may now share their art with a large audience by participating in the new Emerging Artists Program at this year’s Renaissance ArtsFaire, hosted by the Doña Ana Arts Council (DAAC).
While established artists apply through a national on-line process, with this program, new artists of any age can apply to be admitted and receive several discounts, as DAAC will not only waive their application fee but also pay the cost of their liability insurance. Emerging Artists may take part in this program for two years and then be automatically accepted to participate as a regular RenFaire artist.
The cost of a 10-by-20-foot booth is $450, the same as for other artists, but up to eight Emerging Artists may share it. Artists can submit work in many categories, including fiber arts, metal sculpture, wood, photography, jewelry, porcelain, pottery, and glass, or mixed media.
Deret Roberts, artist, owner of Art Obscura Gallery, and board member at DAAC, says, “The emerging artist program was formed to foster and encourage new artists by giving them a chance to sell and showcase at art fairs. It’s a great opportunity for artists who are new to selling work to get their art in front of thousands of potential customers.”
DAAC is committed to supporting new artists in the greater Las Cruces area by providing this opportunity to present and sell artwork at the 47th Annual Renaissance ArtsFaire on November 3 and 4, 2018 at Young Park, 1905 E. Nevada, Las Cruces. Approximately 12,000 people attend this outdoor event annually.
Emerging Artists are encouraged to apply as a group of up to eight people per booth space. Applications are due by Friday, September 28th and available on a first come, first served basis. Applications are available on line at www.daarts.org, in person at the DAAC offices, 1740 Calle de Mercado, or by calling (575) 523-6403.
